A Personal Mission Born from Love

I’ve always believed that the best memories in life are made with our pets by our side. When I got my first dog at 15, she was the most frightened rescue I’d ever seen – cowering in corners, unsure if humans could be trusted. Watching her transform into the most loving, confident companion over the years taught me something profound: every animal deserves the chance to discover their true self in a loving home.

That scared little dog saw me through every major change in my life, and she sparked a passion that would follow me across continents.

The Moment Everything Changed

Living as an expat meant I couldn’t always have pets of my own. But I found ways to help: donating to shelters, volunteering, supporting rescue organizations from afar. I was always the person following multiple rescue accounts on Instagram, heart breaking over every story, but thinking adoption was “someday” territory due to the uncertainties of expat life.

Then, last summer, everything aligned perfectly.

A local rescue organization posted an urgent plea: they needed someone to foster a cat who had just given birth the night she was rescued. Something about the timing, the need, the fact that I’d be alone at home for a month – it all felt destined.

I said yes immediately.

When Foster Becomes Forever

What arrived was a mama cat with two tiny kittens. The plan was simple: one month of fostering, then they’d find their forever homes. Life had other plans.

Ten days in, one kitten didn’t make it. That night, something extraordinary happened. The mama cat, in her grief and desperation, picked up her surviving baby and brought him to my bed. She placed him next to me, and the three of us slept together – a makeshift family bound by loss and love.

In that moment, I knew she had chosen me. I couldn’t let her live without her only baby, and I couldn’t imagine my life without them.

We became a family that night. That was over a year ago, and they are everything to me.

The Gap We’re Here to Fill

My adoption journey opened my eyes to a significant problem: the fragmented nature of pet adoption across Europe.
